Dave and I will be playing music in a five-piece band at the Eastham Four Points (aka the Sheraton), my first actual "gig" since our August 8th wedding in the Chapel of the Child! What a way to usher in the new millennium! Guess I'd better go practice my guitar. Stay tuned.-JWG |

Comments: Thanks to Bob Hougasian for the kind words regarding our 8-8-99 wedding in the Chapel of the Child at Greer (aka the Fountains,in the most recent Alumni Newsletter. We had a perfectly perfect ceremony! Former student Barbara Lawrence was my Maid of Honor and our houseparent, Charmi Neely (who had also attended Greer School), was present as well. We used a poem written by her husband Michael Mulvihill as part of our customized service too. Look for a digital wedding party photo, taken by Tony Vaz, coming soon at this site. Meanwhile, we are looking forward to the next reunion. It was great to visit with all of you! Sincerely, Judy & Dave P.S. Can't believe how many alums had never heard of the Jean Webster books about Greer: Read DADDY LONG LEGS and DEAR ENEMY for a few good memories. |

Comments: I would appreciate an e-mail message giving the exact date of the reunion, information on how to reserve at the motel, etc. Jim Morton sent this information in a newsletter around Christmas time, when I didn't yet have my 1999 calendar up, and I misplaced the letter. The Spring newsletter, when I hoped he'd repeat it, just said, "See you in August." I think it would help turnout for the reunion if you'd do an e-mail reminder with this information before other summer plans get booked into people's schedules. (My far-flung kids booked a family reunion in Delaware for 8/14-21 and I'm hoping it doesn't conflict with the Greer reunion. At the time they were setting up the family reunion, I couldn't recall the Greer reunion dates.) Thanks for considering this request. |

Comments: When I might mention to someone that I grew up at a home for kids, they often show a look of concern. I'm quick to tell them that I was a very happy kid at Greer, no doubt about it: sports, friends, school, good staff and teachers, great food...well, strike that last one. The day I left after the ninth grade I cried uncontrollably. I'm looking forward to the reunion. I went to the reunion two years ago with my sister Pat, my mom and my wife. It was wonderful. Now that I finally got on-line, the other day, I'm looking forward to checking out this web page regularly. Thanks Tony putting this together (and George, thanks for not kicking my butt when I tried to take you on in Marcy's kitchen when I lived there and you were one of "the big kids" working as a counselor at Marcy). Funny what we remember. |

Comments: I was a student at Greer School during a particularly difficult time in my life. I have many memories, most of which are good (although not all!). I grew up in Jersey City/NYC and currenly live and practice (medical) in NC. I left NJ/NY area years ago. I would like to hear from Greer School folks. By the way, I just decided to "search" for Greer. My previous efforts, "way back when" weren't successful. |
