Comments: At the end of a very busy week, I say TGIFG (Thank God I Found Greer)while surfing these sites. The few reunions I've attended have been so worthwhile. I regret those that I've had to miss. Hoping to come this year and wishing to connect with more of the sixties set. One last thought--my first job after leaving Greer was at a library and it was at another library that I was fortunate enough to meet Betty Bliven (who'd taught at "Hope Farm" in the twenties!) I used to drive this now deceased volunteer to work once a week and we never knew about our common ground until I mentioned Jim and Isabel's visit one day during coffee break. She recalled Jim's arrival as a mere infant...and so much more of Greer's rich history. Let me know how I can help as plans progress. With warmest regards, Judy Wallace (sister of Rose & Sharon---the Wallace Sisters). |

Comments: After viewing the photo pages, I'm pretty sure that I'm the girl high on the see-saw circa 1954. It was very strange to see a photo of me that I had never seen. I have very mixed feelings about my years at Greer, not because of the school, but because of what was going on in my own life. I had lost my father the previous Fall and four months later was dropped on the doorsteps of Plum Cottage. I have visited with my family since then, and am in awe of what a beautiful place it was. |

Comments: Autumn is indeed a good time to think about Greer. I visit this column often. Am joining others in thanking Tony for making all this possible. Didn't play but remember the basketball games, away and home, rooting for the team. Also playing bicycle ice hockey with brooms on the frozen pond, when it got a little colder. Sitting in Gate House watching the Winter Olympics with Jean Claude Killy as the name to remember. President Kennedy's inauguration on a cold East Coast day, with Robert Frost braving the weather to read his poetry. Gotta go, I think I hear the food truck coming. |
Deborah Dinneen - 11/21/98 00:13:57 Student? (Y/N):No, my father was a student (1944-1947) |

Comments: I finally learned how to use the computer this year and now I can start to say hello to many of my old friends such as Jim Morton, Pam Fernandez (who told me about this web page), Tony Vaz, and John Hudnor, who I owe so many letters to. Space will limit me now but there are probably 100 plus people who I would hear from including Bill Monza, John Maffi, Tom French, Bill Hansen, and especially Harold Soo Hoo. I tried several times to find a Greer School page, but no luck. Pam Fernandez called me and gave me the web address, so here I am. Tony Vaz, keep up the good work. Jim Morton and Mitzi, thanks for keeping us informed about what is going on with the Greer students and staff, you have done a great job. I have every intention of being at the next reunion and maybe with the web page we can get a great turn out. I must rush off now to visit the web site and find out who is out there. |

Comments: Greer helped me to learn how to live in life. I find that some of the house parents were young at the time I was there. This was good. For we both did good of this. For someone like you and me to go through what we went through with what was against us and the people who loved us (Greer). This could be good. Lets do this again. Let's help someone to deal with this and with Christ in mind. God Bless and thank you Greer. |

Comments: Hi Tony. You, George, and Peggy have done a great job in getting Greer on the Internet. We have lived in the Poughkeepsie area for a number of years. We see Mrs. Elliott during the summer and talk to Jim Morton now and then. We saw Mitzi about three weeks ago while shopping. Mrs. Elliott and Eleanor were going to visit Mrs. Fink this week but then she suggested that the visit be post-poned because of the hot wearher. We also have infrequent contact with Miss Pat Dallas who lives near Hyde Park. Eleanor and I miss the old days at Greer but always enjoy hearing about former students. I hope that we can be in touch with some of them now that we are on line. Thanks again for the opportunity to be in-touch with Greer. Jim and Eleanor |

Comments: The Gatehouse Revolt of '58 was a reaction by the older residents of Gatehouse to a pair of abusive houseparents. The older boys left Gatehouse enmass one night and walked up to the Main Office and told the Finks that they weren't going back until the houseparents were gone. They were gone within two days. For the most part, the upper level management at Greer were very responsive to the needs of their students. I can't imagine that happening in today's world. |
